Why PhillyMatch exists
Most dating apps are built to maximize time spent in the app. Swiping is designed to be addictive, "compatibility" scores are opaque, and the people you see first are often the people the app has decided are the most photogenic. PhillyMatch started in September 2024 as a deliberately different kind of site: a free option for people in and around Philadelphia that came with a professionally designed psychometric matching engine instead of a swipe deck.
The premise is simple. Members answer 172 short statements about their values, attitudes, habits, and personality. We then rank other members by how similarly they answered. Two people who agree about politics, pets, money, faith, humor, ambition, and how to spend a Saturday have a real head start, and that is what we surface first.
The community has grown past a thousand members, and in 2026 we opened PhillyMatch to the whole Northeast U.S. The name stays, because that is where we started.
Who runs it
PhillyMatch was created and is run by Tyler Moore, PhD, a professional psychometrician: a research psychologist whose day job for more than 15 years has been designing, validating, and shortening psychological tests. His assessments have been used by organizations such as NASA, two branches of the U.S. military, and psychiatry research groups around the world. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on measurement, factor analysis, and adaptive testing, and some of that work directly informed the way PhillyMatch matches people (see How it works).
PhillyMatch is one of several data products built under MooreMetrics. The operating company is Philadelphia Psychometric Matching LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company.
What we believe
- Substance over swiping. You are more than your best photo. We rank people by how much they agree with you, not by how often strangers swipe on them.
- Small and real. PhillyMatch is a real community moderated by a real person. We do not create fake profiles, and there are no bots writing to you.
- Privacy first. Your questionnaire answers are used for matching and nothing else. We do not sell personal information, and you can hide your answers from other members at any time.
- Free to use. Creating an account, completing the questionnaire, browsing matches, and messaging are free. A few optional extras (such as boosting your profile) cost a small amount and help keep the site running without advertising.
- Regional by design. Matches should be people you could actually meet for coffee. PhillyMatch serves the Northeast U.S.: the Mid-Atlantic and New England.
Verification and safety
Members can verify their identity through an independent verification provider (a government ID, a selfie, and a liveness check). Verified members get a badge on their profile, and anyone can choose to see only verified members in search. Blocking and reporting tools are built into every profile and conversation.
